Day 2Port Moresby / Mt. Hagen
Transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Mt. Hagen town in the upper Wahgi Valley, a valley with some of the oldest evidence of agriculture in the world. You’ll be met and transferred to the Mount Hagen Show grounds for a full day of enjoyment. The festival brings together sing-sing groups from across Papua New Guinea, celebrating a dazzling and diverse array of cultures. After arriving at the Kagamuga airport, you will be met and transferred directly to the Mt. Hagen show.
Later in the afternoon, you are driven up a picturesque road past highlands gardens and on to Rondon Ridge. Perched high above Mt Hagen, with mist-filled views of the Wahgi Valley below, Rondon Ridge is your accommodation during the Hagen Show.

Day 4Mount Hagen/ Lake Murray
Transfer to the airport for your charter flight to Lake Murray. Lake Murray is the largest lake in Papua New Guinea. During the wet season, it spreads to occupy an area of about 2000 square kilometers. It has a population of about 5,000 people scattered in small villages, both on tiny islands and coastal areas of the lake. Of interest, the lake also has had sightings of its’ own “Nessie”, believed to be a relative of the Theropod dinosaur family. Island communities of stilted houses dot the water landscape of the lake. Dugout canoes are the primary mode of transportation and fishing is a major source of food to the local population. After lunch at the lodge, enjoy an afternoon tour.

Lake Murray is one of the best bird-watching areas in the Province. In addition to a host of migratory birds, several birds of paradise species, pelicans, hornbills, eagles, parrots, and numerous other birds have been sighted. Lake Murray is also known for its Black Bass, Barramundi and Saratoga fish. Spend today getting to know the sites of this area.

Day 6 Lake Murray/Karawari
Transfer to the airport for your charter flight to Karawari. Sitting on a ridge above the Karawari River, the Karawari lodge boasts a spectacular view over hundreds of miles of tropical jungle. Inspired by local architecture and built with traditional materials, the lodge offers modern comforts in a unique setting. Proceed with lunch then followed an afternoon visit to Kundiman village for sago making demonstration. Sago is the Staple food for the river people.

Day 7 Karawari / Sepik Spirit
Down the brown swirling waters of the Karawari, past vine and orchid tangled trees, the ‘river trucks’ move towards the Sepik Spirit. The almost absolute silence is broken only by the shrill cry of a disturbed water bird. The river flows broad and quiet, with little villages incised from the jungle. Sago, betel nut, lumbum, and other palms compete with breadfruit trees and wild yams for a safe foothold.

Spend these days exploring the area of the Sepik Region. Cruise to the remote Black Water Lakes and visit villages where the people are prolific carvers. Here you can purchase many interesting items such as masks, elaborately carved hooks, ancestral figures, hand drums, baskets, and gourds. Also, enjoy a visit to Mindimbit Villages.

Begin the journey back up the Karawari River and prepare to leave the Sepik Spirit for your journey to Ambua Lodge in the highlands of PNG. A short flight across untouched rainforest and mountains will bring you to the Tari Valley; the home of the famous Huli tribe. Once you arrive you will be transferred to the Ambua Lodge; nestled at the edge of the lush green rainforest and overlooking the serene Tari valley below. Spend the afternoon enjoying Ambua’s winding forest trails that take you through lush rainforest, past gushing waterfalls, and over traditional vine bridges.

Days 11 & 12 Huli Villages
Spend two days touring the Huli villages and countryside. The Hulis are famed for their colorful bilas (traditional dress) and unique traditions. The Huli men pride themselves on their beautiful bilas with its’ elaborately constructed human hair headdress which they lavishly decorate with flowers, mosses, and ornate bird feathers. Their bilas combined with their unique sing sing is intended both to impress their audience, as well as intimidate enemies. Visit the men’s wig school and tour the local villages to experience how this proud mountain tribe has evolved in the modern age, while still maintaining the stories, beliefs, and traditions of their ancestors.
