It aims at the promotion of research into Mahayana (a Buddhist sect) as well as Tibetan language and culture. • Directorate of Handicrafts & Handlooms (Institute of Cottage Industries) - Home to hand-woven Tibetan carpets, blankets, shawls, and Sikkimese wooden tables (Choktse). It produces and promotes the state's traditional arts and crafts and teaches the Sikkim’s ancient crafts as well. • Chorten and Orchid sanctuary - A colossal Chorten, whose gold apex is can be seen from various points in Gangtok.
